The Regional Plastic Surgery Center team boasted 42 enthusiastic members (including some patients), who completed the 5K and did their part in the fight against breast cancer. Each team member sported a specially designed T-shirt and wrist band to demonstrate their solidarity and commitment to the cause.

As further evidence of their dedication to the fight against breast cancer, Regional Plastic Surgery Center will donate the $10 admission fee paid by every attendee to its Fall Beauty Event (held on October 20) to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The center is proud to do its part in the effort to eradicate breast cancer and save women’s lives.

More About the Regional Plastic Surgery Center

The Regional Plastic Surgery Center is a practice consisting of several plastic surgeons who provide a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery procedures to patients from Dallas, Plano and the surrounding area. Dr. Kwon’s training continued with a residency locally at the prestigious University of Texas Southwest Medical Center in Dallas.  He then completed a 1-year fellowship in hand and microsurgery in Pittsburgh.

He has numerous publications, national presentations, manuscripts and research experience.  We came to know him through personal experience where he worked with each of us during his residency training.  Early on, we recognized his superior skills and knowledge as well as his wonderful personality and bedside manner.  We actively pursued him to join us to help Regional Plastic Surgery Center expand and provide excellent plastic and hand surgical care to the north and eastern Dallas metroplex areas.

In his spare time, Dr. Kwon enjoys cooking for his wife, Crossfit training, cycling when the weather isn’t so hot, and a huge baseball fan. He has been a great addition to the Regional Plastic Surgery Center & Spa family!

On the evening of April 28, 2011 with the event not scheduled to start until 5:30pm, we had long lines of eager attendees ready to tear down the doors at 3:30pm.  Undoubtedly, the valuable gift bags for only the first 25 were a huge draw.

By 6:00 pm the Hyatt Regency Ballroom was filled with new and established patients eager to explore all of the specials on facial rejuvenation treatments.

Historically low price deals were available for Botox, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Sculptra.  Booths with knowledgeable product reps were available for all of these desirable products.

Many guests came to the event to take advantage of Regional Plastic Surgery Center’s first ever Breast Augmentation Special.  The number of guests who signed up for this special exceeded all expectations.  This special included doctor’s fee, implants (your choice of silicone or saline price varies), operating room fee, anesthesia, post op care, and follow-ups all combined into one packaged price.

As the night continued patients enjoyed themselves, the hors d’oeuvres, and drinks while the staff worked diligently to accommodate everyone’s needs and announce various winners to many different drawings.

As staff we decided to try something new with punch cards to help with the flow of the guests in order for everyone to be able to see all of the different vendors and what they had to offer.   However, this is something that we will change for the future as we found that it became very confusing and frustrating for our guests.  We also ran late with our botox treatments and will make scheduling adjustments to avoid this in the future.

Our three Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Denton Watumull, Dr. Bruce Byrne, and Dr. Joshua Lemmon were busy the entire night with Botox injections and informational talks about different procedures that Regional Plastic Surgery & Spa has to offer.

As spring and summer approach, the mind naturally turns to outside weather, sports and the outdoors.  Want to look your best in bathing suits and sportswear?  New plastic surgery techniques can help.

Bathing suit makeovers or “mommy makeovers” are terms commonly used to describe simultaneous improvement in several areas of the body, most commonly both the breasts and abdomen.

Breast augmentation and breast lifts are commonly pursued at this time of year.  Breast implants can often add that extra “wow” element to an outfit or bathing suit.   Post-operatively we often see an element of self confidence that changes the entire image and persona someone projects.

How does someone know if a breast lift is required along with the breast implants?  There are no easy formulas: the best solution comes only after a careful examination by a qualified plastic surgeon.  Small degrees of sagging and skin looseness can often be remedied by breast implants only.  Extensive looseness of the skin with breasts very low on the chest most commonly requires a breast lift.  The improved position of the breast on the chest and the youthful tighter breast appearance which can be achieved with a breast lift must be balanced against the additional incisions.  Breast lifts are more commonly required after multiple pregnancies and are less common in those who have not been pregnant before.

The FDA has voiced its desire to begin an implant registry process in order to determine the true incidence of this disease process and its impact on patients.

At this point, we know the following:

1.     The risk is exceedingly low.   ALCL has only been identified in 34 of an estimated 5 to 10 million women with breast implants.  The estimate risk for a woman who undergoes breast augmentation or reconstruction with breast implants is 1 in 500,000.  (The risk of developing breast cancer in all women is estimated to be 1 in 9.

2.     It is unrelated to the type of implant, saline or silicone.

3.     It is not a silent disease.  Women with this rare disorder have noticed lumps, bumps, fluid collections, and painful scar tissue.  It does not go unnoticed.

4.     The disease is treated by removing the implant and the surrounding scar tissue.  Rarely is other treatment necessary.  The disease process is felt to be much less aggressive than other forms of ALCL.

While this is exceedingly rare, women should continue routine self-examinations even following surgery with breast implants.  Any abnormal or unusual findings should prompt a visit with your surgeon.
