Body Contouring: Liposuction, Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) - Dallas, Texas

As people age, their bodies begin to change. Pockets of fat form, skin loses elasticity and begins to sag, and a "spare tire" appears around the waist area. With advanced cosmetic surgery techniques, such as traditional liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction, and tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), Dallas area residents can get rid of the excess fat and sagging skin, restoring a more youthful, firmer physique. For women seeking to further enhance their figures, we also offer breast procedures such as breast augmentation with implants and breast lift.

Who is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

Female candidates for liposuction at our Dallas area practice usually have the liposuction procedure performed in the hips, thighs, and stomach areas and beneath the chin, arms, and breasts. For men, liposuction is usually performed around the waist area, beneath the chin, and in the chest area. Liposuction in areas around the neck and face can be a good way to augment the results of eyelid surgery, face lift, and other facial cosmetic surgery procedures.

Multiple areas of the body can undergo liposuction during one procedure; however, it is not a substitute for overall weight loss. Liposuction patients should also be aware that cellulite is not affected by the procedure. Patients can also have liposuction performed in conjunction with other procedures at Regional Plastic Surgery Center, including procedures such as a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, to remove excess and sagging skin tissue. Contact our Dallas area cosmetic surgery practice to find out if liposuction or another body contouring procedure is right for you.

Before the Liposuction Procedure

Our liposuction patients engage in a thorough consultation at our facility near Dallas, Texas, with one of our cosmetic surgeons. The liposuction consultation includes a discussion of the patient's medical history and liposuction expectations. Our cosmetic surgeons determine how much fat should be removed, the best liposuction procedure to use, and if any other cosmetic surgeries need to be performed to produce optimal results.

The Liposuction Procedure

During the liposuction procedure, our patients feel no pain or discomfort, as anesthesia is used. Incisions, placed as inconspicuously as possible, are made in the problem areas. A small, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted through the incision beneath the skin. The cannula is connected to a vacuum unit and the fat is simply suctioned out of the body.

What to Expect After the Liposuction Procedure

Most patients who undergo liposuction at our Dallas area plastic surgery practice go home the same day of the surgery. The treated areas will be swollen and bruised for several weeks to months, so liposuction results are not immediately evident. Our patients receive prescription medication to control any pain or discomfort. Special garments or bandages may need to be worn to compress the liposuction area. Our patients are typically up and around the day after liposuction surgery and return to work within a few days. As the swelling subsides, the results of the liposuction become apparent. Additional liposuction at our Dallas based facility can help touch-up areas that need it.

Liposuction Risks

Although thousands of people undergo liposuction without incident every year, there are risks involved. Potential complications include bleeding, infection, and a negative reaction to anesthesia. Skin pigmentation changes can happen in the suctioned areas. Accumulation of blood beneath the skin and numbness can occur but usually dissipate in a short time. Skin depression, wrinkling, or other contour irregularities can also occur.

Liposuction Benefits

Our liposuction patients are thrilled with their results! Most patients who undergo the liposuction procedure are finally able to rid themselves of stubborn fat that did not respond to diet and exercise. Ultrasonic Liposuction

Ultrasonic liposuction is available to Dallas area cosmetic surgery patients at Regional Plastic Surgery Center.

Ultrasonic liposuction is a fat removal technique used at our Dallas area practice that complements, but does not replace, the traditional liposuction procedure. Ultrasonic liposuction allows our cosmetic surgeons to access and remove fat from difficult to treat areas such as the upper abdomen, hip, and back. The ultrasonic liposuction technique involves using ultrasonic energy to break up fat cells and convert them into oil. This oil is then easily removed from the body with a suctioning tube called a cannula.

The Ultrasonic Liposuction Procedure

The cannula used during ultrasonic liposuction contains an ultrasonic probe at the end and is attached to an ultrasonic generator and a suction vacuum. Our patients are first given anesthesia. After the anesthesia takes effect, small incisions are made in the areas to be treated with ultrasonic liposuction at our Dallas vicinity surgery center. Fluid is added through the incisions and into the fat to be removed. The fluid swells the skin and allows our cosmetic surgeons easier access to the area. A cannula is then inserted into the body through the incision and passed through the fat. The ultrasonic energy generated by the cannula breaks up the fat cells and converts them to oil. The oil blends with the fluid and this mixture is vacuumed out of the body by the cannula.

What to Expect After the Ultrasonic Liposuction Procedure

Recovery after an ultrasonic liposuction procedure at our Dallas area facility is similar to the traditional liposuction procedure detailed above. Complications possible with traditional liposuction are possible with ultrasonic liposuction. Additional complications from the ultrasonic liposuction procedure include skin burns and scarring caused by the cannula tip. Fluid can collect in the suctioned area following surgery, but this problem is usually insignificant and treated successfully.

If you are of normal weight yet carry saddlebags, love handles, or other areas of fat that just won't budge regardless of how strict your diet or how much you exercise, ultrasonic liposuction can help. To discuss standard and ultrasonic liposuction, Dallas area residents can contact the highly skilled, accredited cosmetic surgeons at Regional Plastic Surgery Center now!

Who is a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

People have loose skin and excess fat in the abdominal area for many reasons. Genetics and substantial weight loss cause skin to lose its elasticity and sag and fat to accumulate. Pregnancy can separate and weaken abdominal muscles as well as create stretch marks. Others have an abdomen that unattractively protrudes from the body. These people are often ideal candidates for an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck. Dallas area patients can come to Regional Plastic Surgery Center, can remedy these problems.

Before the Abdominoplasty Procedure

The decision to undergo an abdominoplasty should be made only after a complete and thorough consultation with a qualified, experienced cosmetic surgeon. All plastic surgeons at Regional Plastic Surgery Center are board certified and have extensive experience with abdominoplasty. In Dallas, Texas, there is no better choice for your cosmetic surgery needs.

During the initial consultation concerning tummy tuck or abdominoplasty at our Dallas area facility, a complete and thorough medical history is taken. The incision made and techniques used will depend upon the circumstances of our tummy tuck patients. Our patients should tell their plastic surgeon of any previous abdominal surgeries as existing scarring can affect results. Female patients should discuss their plans to become pregnant, as well as plans for other surgery such as breast enlargement with breast implants. Our cosmetic surgeon will examine the abdominal area and assess the skin's elasticity. Our patients should be candid about their abdominoplasty expectations.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

The typical abdominoplasty procedure for our Dallas patients begins with an incision placed just within or above the pubic area that is laterally extended in each direction toward the pelvic bones. When possible, the incision will remain in an area that is easily covered by a bathing suit or undergarments. A second incision will be made above the navel if loose skin is there as well. Excess skin is removed and, when possible, skin containing stretch marks is removed. Liposuction may be used to remove excess fat. The remaining abdominal skin is pulled down to the incision and stitched to the muscle to tighten the area. The navel is repositioned through an incision in the skin.

What to Expect After Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is usually performed as a short-stay surgery. After surgery, the abdomen is bandaged and small tubes may be attached to help drain fluids. These tubes are removed in a week or so. Pain medication is prescribed, but our office should be contacted if severe pain occurs. The day after a tummy tuck, our Dallas area patients are encouraged to move around to promote blood circulation. Sitting for an extended time, straining, bending, and lifting should be avoided for several days. Our patients may be told to sleep on their back with a pillow beneath the knees. Support garments may have to be worn for several weeks. Our cosmetic surgeons determine when our patients can resume normal activities and return to work after the abdominoplasty procedure at our facility near Dallas.

Stitches are usually self-absorbable and do not need to be removed. The incision will initially be red and will remain red for several months. The incision is permanent, although it will fade with time. The area may be numb, and it could be several months before all feeling is regained. It will usually take several weeks for bruising and swelling to diminish.

Tummy Tuck Results

When the swelling is gone, what is left behind is a firmer, flatter abdominal area. The large majority of abdominoplasty patients are thrilled with the outcome. View our tummy tuck before and after gallery to see the incredible body sculpting results abdominoplasty can achieve. Abdominoplasty results at our Dallas vicinity surgical center usually will last a long time unless our patient gains or loses a substantial amount of weight. Eventually, aging and gravity may cause the abdomen to sag again. If this happens, another abdominoplasty procedure can be performed in our Dallas area surgical facility.

Tummy Tuck Risks

Complications remain possible, despite the fact that thousands of people each year successfully undergo a tummy tuck. Our Dallas area cosmetic surgeons will discuss these in detail during the consultation. Complications from abdominoplasty include bleeding, infections, and negative reactions to anesthesia. Further, tissue along the incision may die; this typically happens when the procedure is extensive or the patient smokes or has certain medical conditions such as diabetes. If incisions heal poorly, additional surgery may help. Fluid may accumulate under the skin but can be painlessly removed.

The results of a buttock, thigh, and lower body lift are a tighter, more contoured thigh and buttock area and a decrease in skin surface irregularities.

The buttock, thigh, and lower body lift is typically performed in our Dallas area facility as a short-stay surgery using general anesthesia. Techniques vary depending on the cosmetic surgeon and needs of the patient. Incisions are placed as inconspicuously as possible. The procedure is often combined with liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction, or abdominoplasty. Our Dallas area cosmetic surgeons will advise you on which procedures will best meet your needs.
